The Department of Strategic Intelligence and Security Studies has the pleasure of inviting You to an "ADVANCED COURSE ON INTELLIGENCE REFORM" with Professor Loch Kingsford Johnson - Link Campus University Library - June 12th and 13th 2009. This course is organized by the Department of strategic intelligence and security studies of Link Campus University. One of the key activities of the Department is to invite the world’s leading experts to Link Campus University to teach advanced courses on intelligence studies and global security issues designed for Italy’s policy-making community, national security community, universities and think-tanks, public and private corporations. Aim of the course - This advanced course on security intelligence seeks to examine a neglected topic: intelligence reform. This topic is often overlooked in the textbooks and scholarly journals because it is a uniquely difficult to study. The course will begin with a review of basic definitions and organizational orientations. It then will turn to the core mission of intelligence collection and analysis, exploring the phases of the "intelligence cycle": planning and direction, collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination. Next the course will take up the topics of covert action and counterintelligence. Then the seminar will analyze the subject of intelligence accountability in the world's democracies. In each phase of the course, attention will be paid to matters of legality, politics, and morality, not just the details of intelligence operations. An overall evaluation of the successes and failures of Western intelligence will provide a capstone to the course. Structure of the course:
