Angelo CANALE is honorary President of the Court of Auditors, and in the last three years he was Attorney General at the Court of Auditors.

He won the public competition an open competition on the basis of qualifications and examinations, Mr Canale - coming from the managerial ranks (officer in s.p.e.) of another Administration - entered the accounting magistracy on 1 March 1986 and was assigned to the Control Section of the Court of Auditors for the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

In june 1987 he was assigned to the Attorney General's Office as Deputy Attorney General. At that time, he also acted as public prosecutor both at first instance and at appeal. He was promoted to Counsellor of the Court of Auditors, with the function of Deputy Attorney General, on 1 March 1990.  In April 1991 he had the additional task of setting up the first regional public prosecutor's office of the Court of Auditors in Calabria. In 1994, he was assigned to the Regional Prosecutor's Office for the Lazio Region. In July 2011, he was appointed Regional Prosecutor at the Court of Auditors in Tuscany. He was promoted President of Section, and in October 2014 he was assigned the Presidency of the Jurisdictional Section of the Court of Auditors of the Umbria region. Two years later, upon partecipating to a public competition, he was appointed President of the 3rd Central Appellate Chamber; he subsequently took up the position of President of the 2nd Central Appellate Chamber in March 2020. Upon winning a complex competition procedure, he was appointed Attorney General of the Court of Auditors on 19 October 2020. In June 2022, he received the highest honour of the Italian Republic: Cavaliere di Gran Croce. Retired as of 20 October 2020, he was appointed Honorary President of the Court of Auditors.

Throughout his long career, President Canale has initiated more than a thousand judgments on fiscal responsibility, and has acted for decades as a prosecutor in hearings, both at first instance and on appeal. In his functions as first instance and appellate judge, he has drafted hundreds of sentences, appeals, conclusions on party appeals, appeals and counter-appeals in cassation. He has made written submissions to the Constitutional Court, also participating in the oral discussion. He was a member of the Commission that drafted the first Code of Accounting Justice. Chairman of the competition commission for magistrates of the Court of Auditors; also, chairman of competition commissions for managers (ISFOL, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and State Archives, Ministry of Agriculture, etc.). 

In addition to his strictly institutional activities, Pres. Canale has also carried out numerous significant extra-institutional tasks, some of which in an out-of-office position. He was first legal advisor to the High Commissioner for the fight against mafia delinquency, then to the DIA; extraordinary sub-commissioner of the Municipality of Rome; councillor of the Municipality of Rome; Chairman of commissions of enquiry, several times 'expert' at the Legal and Legislative Affairs Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM); Head of Cabinet at the Ministry of Productive Activities (now Ministry of Economic Development); Head of the Tourism Department at the PCM; various posts in sports justice, including member of the Sports Guarantee Board.  

He continues to carry out and intense didactic activity. He curated and co-authored various publications focused on the Court of Auditors and Accounting Justice.

Pres. Canale is airplane pilot and practices flight activity on a regular basis.
