Salvatore Sciacchitano graduated in medicine and surgery in 1982. He held a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Murcia, Spain in 1985, a specialization degree in Endocrinology from the Tor Vergata University of Rome, Italy in 1987, and a Doctorate in Endocrinology and Metabolism from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy in 1993.
He was a Fogarty Visiting Fellowship at the Diabetes Branch, NIDDK, NIH Bethesda, MD, USA (1994–1997) and the Chief Secretary of the State Undersecretary in the Italian Ministry of Health, Rome, Italy (2018–2019). He has been a researcher at the Department of Experimental Medicine and Pathology, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy (1994–2023) and is now an Associate Professor at the Link Campus University in Rome, Italy (2023-today). He is a member of the Società Italiana di Endocrinologia (SIE), and of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE).
He was awarded the best poster at the ESE Meeting 2021, Milan, Italy His current and previous research interests are Diabetes and insulin signaling; Thyroid cancer diagnosis, Fine needle aspiration biopsy; COVID-19 and nonthyroidal illness syndrome. He has more than 90 papers publications with 2973 citations and an h-index of 28 (Scopus, 21 November 2023) in these areas.
