Alessandro Botta

Researcher

Link Campus University - Rome

Dr Alessandro Botta is a physiotherapist and researcher in the field of neuroscience applied to neurological rehabilitation. He attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (2015), a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at KU Leuven in Belgium (2018) and a PhD in Neuroscience aym the University of Genoa (2022).

His scientific activity is mainly focused on the study of the neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning motor control and locomotion in neurological disorders, with particular reference to Parkinson’s disease. The main lines of research focus on neuroplasticity, cognitive-emotional-sensorimotor integration and non-invasive neuromodulation, through the use of techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial electrical stimulation (tDCS/tACS), high-density electroencephalography (hd-EEG) and instrumental motion analysis using inertial sensors.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in national and international research projects dedicated to the study of the neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning movement disorders and neurological rehabilitation. He has taken part in a project funded by the Ministry of Health on cognitive-emotional-sensorimotor integration in Parkinson’s disease and is involved in the international UNITE-PD project, funded under the EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research, which aims to conduct a multimodal study of the neural mechanisms underlying compensatory strategies for gait disorders in Parkinson’s disease.

Furthermore, he teaches at university level in the fields of neurophysiology and rehabilitation, and is the author of 27 international scientific publications.
