Cristina Algieri, is currently a researcher at Link Campus University, Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions. She attained a PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences, basic sciences curriculum, SSD BIOS-07/A (formerly BIO-10) – BIOCHEMISTRY in 2022, at Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna, DIMEVET. Her research activities are focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial F1FO-ATPase related to the opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore, a phenomenon underlying regulated cell death involved in multiple pathophysiological conditions. In this context, the research has been corroborated by studies on mitochondrial bioenergetics both on mitochondria isolated from pig hearts, an animal widely used as a model in translational medicine, and on cell models. In particular, cellular energy metabolism, assessed using Seahorse technology, was considered to investigate metabolic dysfunctions associated with different cell models under physiological and pathological conditions (e.g., hypoxia/reoxygenation model, doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity model), in most cases characterized by mitochondrial dysfunctions, in order to clarify which specific metabolic pathways to consider for possible therapeutic/protective treatments.
