
Giuseppe Piegari is an Associate Professor of General Pathology and Veterinary Pathological Anatomy (SSD MVET/02-A) at Link Campus University. He attained the National Academic Qualification (ASN) for the position of Associate Professor in 2022 and is among the first in Italy to earn Certing certification in Veterinary Forensic Medicine.
He holds a Ph.D. in “Veterinary Sciences” and is a specialist in “Infectious Diseases, Prevention, and Veterinary Public Health”; he furthered his education with a master degree in “Autopsy and Histocytotechnology Biomedical Sciences” at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He has taught in Degree Courses, Specialization Courses, and Research Doctorates in the veterinary field, as well as in several academic masters, with a particular focus on forensic pathology, including the Master in Veterinary Forensic Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II and the Master in Veterinary Pathology at the University of Padua.
His research activity is mainly focused on the integration of veterinary pathology and forensic sciences. In this field, he studies postmortem changes to estimate the time of death and performs necropsy diagnostics for asphyxiation and traumatic deaths in animals. Additional research areas include veterinary oncology, environmental pathology, and myopathology. He is a founding member and regional secretary of the Italian Society of Veterinary Forensic Sciences (SISFV), as well as the veterinary medical representative on the board of the Italian Group of Forensic Entomology (GIEF).
He has served as a technical consultant in the legal system, participating in proceedings related to cases of animal killing and abuse. In this context, he has helped to bridge the gap between scientific rigor and practical application, putting science at the service of justice and animal welfare.
