Researcher
Link Campus University - Rome
Graduated with honors in Genetics and Molecular Biology at La Sapienza University of Rome, and subsequently obtained a PhD with distinction in Biochemistry at the same university, in the “Alessandro Rossi Fanelli” Department of Biochemical Sciences.
During her PhD, she was a researcher at the Department of Chemistry at the BioMedicine Centre, Uppsala University in Sweden, in the laboratory of Prof. Ylva Ivarsson. She subsequently held a research fellowship at the Department of Radiological, Oncological and Anatomical Pathological Sciences at the Policlinico
Umberto I in Rome – Sapienza University of Rome.
In 2019, she was awarded a three-year AIRC scholarship for her original research project, which she carried out at the Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Ferrara.
After spending a year as a fixed-term research fellow at IRBM spa in Pomezia, she returned to academic research at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the Centre for Life Nano & NeuroScience, based in Rome, where she co-led the Neurodegeneration and Protein Aggregation (NDPA) research group.
For two years, she was a fixed-term Type A Research Fellow (RTDA) at the Faculty of Medicine of Unicamillus International Medical University (Rome), in the BIOS-07/A – Biochemistry sector, where she taught on the Medicine and Surgery and Healthcare Professions courses in both Italian and English.
Her research focuses primarily on: i) the study of the regulation of survival and cellular stress mechanisms mediated by changes in calcium homeostasis, ii) protein aggregation stress, iii) the study of protein-protein interactions and binding motifs using phage display, iv) the in vitro modelling of neurodegenerative diseases using patient-derived iPSCs, v) the development of screening and/or drug repositioning platforms for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (primarily ALS and HD).
She authored and co-authored several scientific papers published in international peer-reviewed journals with a high scientific impact. She is a review editor for the journal Frontiers in Oncology, in the Molecular and Cellular Oncology section, and was editor of the research topic ‘Organoids and 3D Culture: Bridging Tissue Complexity in Biomedical Research’ in Frontiers in Medicine.
