Associate Professor
Link Campus University - Rome
Maria Teresa Gentile, PhD, is an Associate Professor of General Pathology. She graduated with honors in Biological Sciences (Biomolecular pathway) at the University of Naples Federico II and attained her PhD in Pharmacology at the Second University of Naples.
In the early stages of her scientific career, her research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, with particular attention to the relationship between high blood pressure and Alzheimer’s disease. More recently, her interest has turned to the processes of neural proliferation and differentiation and to the mechanisms of chemoresistance in tumours of the central nervous system, particularly in glioblastoma multiforme.
She has gained research experience in Italy and abroad (University of Würzburg, Germany) and has collaborated with various centres of excellence, including the Neuromed Institute in Pozzilli and the Telethon Foundation. She is the author of numerous articles in international peer-reviewed journals and has held editorial and peer-review roles for leading scientific journals.
She is a member of the editorial board of Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences – Molecular Diagnostics and Therapeutics. She has received various awards for her scientific work, including the ‘Young Scientist’ awards from the European Science Foundation and the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, and the Research Award from the Italian Society of Arterial Hypertension.
She actively collaborates with various national and international research groups and is currently in charge of the research programme “Identification of the nitrogen and carbon isotopic profile in distinct tumour areas from patients with glioblastoma multiforme: Role in the hypoxic and pseudo-hypoxic metabolism of glioblastoma” as part of the GLIOMAS project commissioned by the MRM Foundation.
