Silvia Di Lodovico is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (SSD MEDS-03/A) at the Link Campus University.
She graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies at the “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara and carried out research activity at the University’s Microbiology Laboratory, where she earned a Ph.D. in Biomolecular and Pharmaceutical Sciences with European certification. From 2022 to 2026, she served as a Type A Fixed-Term Researcher (SSD MEDS-03/A) at the “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara.
Her scientific work focuses on the development of innovative, non-antibiotic strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance. Her main research areas include: the study of mono- and polymicrobial biofilms (dentin; the Lubbock Chronic Wound Biofilm model, LCWB) using cultural, molecular, and ultrastructural approaches; the evaluation of the antimicrobial and antivirulence activity of natural and synthetic compounds, as well as the use of innovative technologies—either alone or in combination with antibiotics—against pathogenic and multidrug-resistant microorganisms (isolates from chronic wounds, fast-growing mycobacteria, oral pathogens, and Helicobacter pylori). It also conducts in vivo toxicity and infection studies using the Galleria mellonella experimental model.
She has established multidisciplinary collaborations with national and international research institutions and with industrial partners in the biomedical and disinfectant sectors. She authored 48 peer-reviewed scientific publications, has participated in numerous national and international conferences, and has received several scientific awards. She is actively involved in multiple national and international research projects and serves as Co-Principal Investigator on a PRIN PNRR Under 40 project.
