Purposes

The Master is designed for candidates who want to combine academic rigour, operational skills and mastery of emerging technologies in a course focused on know-how.

The Master offers a course divided into teaching modules that allow for the progressive acquisition of the best scientific and technical methodologies in the ICT sector applied to the environment. This includes fifth-generation technologies for geographic data processing, advanced skills in aerial photogrammetry, environmental monitoring and diagnostics, as well as the creation of digital terrain and city models, moving from traditional 2D and 3D cartography and GIS to Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Thanks to its Geo-SAPR Research Centre, in 2014 Link Campus University BECAMEthe first Italian university centre authorised by ENAC to issue licences for drone piloting. This experience is put to use in the training of officials and managers in the public administration, police forces, civil protection, ISPRA, environmental agencies, park authorities, regional and municipal bodies.

Technological innovation applied to environmental safety is now essential in order to respond to the challenges posed by environmental crimes and natural and man-made events. The population demands prevention and rapid, concrete responses to restore socio-economic and environmental well-being.

What makes this Master truly innovative

  1. It combines space economy, geomatics and environmental security: the Master integrates legal and technological skills related to the use of satellites, drones and geodata for national security.
  2. Strong focus on “know-how”: the programme includes practical tests, workshops, exercises and real-life cases.
  3. A strong focus on investigative applications: the inclusion of forensic geomatics makes it unique for those working in law enforcement or technical consulting.
  4. Professors from the academic, institutional and the professional world: lawyers, engineers, geomatics technicians, space economy experts and specialised officers.
  5. It trains professionals capable of integrating data, regulations and technologies: an essential skill for public bodies, security forces and technology companies.

Educational objectives

The Master develops integrated skills in law, technology and technical investigation:

  • Understanding and applying national, European and international legislation on space and geodata
  • Professional use of GNSS, drones, satellite platforms, WebGIS and forensic geomatics tools
  • Reading, interpreting and producing maps, 3D territorial models and georeferenced environmental data
  • Operate in technical-environmental investigation contexts
  • Manage complex data within the framework of new digital governance of the territory and geo-intelligence.

Target Students and Career Opportunities

The Master offers operational tools for cultural and professional growth to both civil servants and young graduates and professionals in the sector. In particular, it is aimed at:

  • Civil servants involved in environmental and land management
  • Police officers and operators with environmental responsibilities
  • Technicians and professionals in geomatics, remote sensing and security
  • Engineers, foresters, agronomists, geographers, architects, lawyers, surveyors and geodata analysts
  • Consultants and professionals (lawyers, engineers, court-appointed technical consultants, environmental journalists) in the environmental and infrastructure sector
  • Young graduates (engineers, biologists, agronomists, geologists, foresters, computer scientists, lawyers)
  • Managers and executives of public administration service companies (waste management, remediation, water treatment, purification plants, electromagnetic pollution).

The training course is therefore aimed at providing skills to address the challenges of environmental safety and health and for effective planning of land, environment and infrastructure maintenance.

The programme is constantly updated in order to comply with national and European regulations, helping students to obtain ENAC certification (category A1/A3) and professional skills in the use of UAVs and environmental sensors for monitoring and safety purposes.

Skills Acquired

Upon completion of the Master the candidates will be able to:

  • Conduct complex technical surveys of the territory
  • Analyze satellite images and geospatial datasets
  • Use professional GNSS tools, drones and WebGIS
  • Correctly apply environmental and geodetic regulations
  • Build investigative reports based on geodata
  • Operate in multidisciplinary teams with technical and scientific responsibilities
