Dr. Antonio Russo graduated with honours (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” (2010-2021) with a degree in Medicine and Surgery and specialization in Infectious Diseases with honours. He attained a PhD in Medical, Clinical and Experimental Sciences at the same University (XXXVII cycle, 2021-2025), enriching his academic and clinical training.
Since 2020, he has held the position of Medical Executive Specialist in Infectious Diseases at the AOU Luigi Vanvitelli (UOC Infectious Diseases), actively collaborating in clinical and research projects. He has also participated in advanced training programmes, such as the ‘SIMIT Next Generation Master Class in HIV’ (2023), and contributed as sub-investigator to several clinical trials, including B-Focus (ongoing since 2025) and SOLIDACT (2021-2022). Subject Matter Expert for the scientific disciplinary field MEDS-10/B at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli since 2024.
His scientific activities range from the study of epidemiology and prognostic factors in SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 infection, to research on viral hepatitis (HCV and HBV), HIV infections and bacterial and mycobacterial infections. The results of her research are reflected in several publications indexed in international journals, in contributions to regionally and nationally funded projects (PRIN PNRR, Regione Campania) and in presentations at national and international conferences.
In addition to his research activities, Dr. Russo is an active member of several scientific societies (SIMIT, EACS, ESCMID), is on the editorial board of journals such as BMC Infectious Diseases and Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, and serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals. In 2024, he received the “CROI-ICAR Award” for the best Clinical Science paper on the eradication of viral hepatitis in migrants.
He currently serves as junior advisor to the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (SIMIT)

The professor is available to receive the students at the end of the lessons. However, the students may also request an appointment by email.
