Enrico La Spina is a Tenure-Track Researcher (RTT) in Biochemistry (SSD BIOS-07/A) at Link Campus University, Rome. His research activity gfocuses on the biochemical and molecular characterization of the tumor microenvironment in hematological malignancies, with a particular emphasis on the role of neutrophils in tumor progression, chemoresistance, and immunomodulation, as well as on the study of metabolic pathways and oxidative stress in oncology.

He earned his Ph.D. in Basic and Applied Biomedical Sciences, with a specialization in Biochemistry, from the University of Catania, where he conducted in-depth research on the remodeling of the antioxidant system and the off-target effects of immunotherapy in multiple myeloma. Subsequently, he served as a Research Fellow as part of an AIRC Investigator Grant project at the CHIRMED Department of the University of Catania.

He has gained international research experience at the University of Malta and Tomsk State University, and has also collaborated with the University of Bristol, University College London (UCL), and IRST IRCCS. His scientific interests also include the extraction and characterization of bioactive molecules of animal origin, with a particular focus on marine organisms and their potential biomedical and biotechnological applications within the context of the Blue Economy and the circular economy, promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.

He has taught as a subject expert in biochemistry, a university tutor, and a co-advisor for master’s theses at the University of Catania. He also teaches practical training courses on model organisms at the Center for Advanced Preclinical in vivo Research (CAPIR).

Among the awards he has received are prizes for Best Abstract at the RISE MPN and SOHO conferences and selection as a national finalist for FameLab Italia. He is the author of 30 scientific publications indexed in Scopus, with 372 citations and an h-index of 12 (as of October 2026). He is a member of SOHO Italy, the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB), and the European Hematology Association (EHA).
