Fabio De Sio

Fabio De Sio graduated in Philosophy at the “Federico II” University of Naples in 2000 and holds a Ph.D. in the History of Science, attained at the “Aldo Moro” University of Bari (2005). From 2002 to 2008, he was a member of the History of Science Unit and Historical Archives at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station in Naples. From 2008 to 2011, he was a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow at the Wellcome Trust Center for the History of Medicine at UCL (University College London). From 2012 to 2025, he was a researcher and lecturer at the Institut für Geschichte, Theorie und Ethik der Medizin (Institute for the History, Theory, and Ethics of Medicine) at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.

His main research interests are the following: history of biomedicine in Italy and Europe in the 20th century, particularly physiology and molecular biology; history of scientific institutions; history and ethics of neuroscience; and history, epistemology, and ethics of animal experimentation in neuroscience, with a particular focus on invertebrate models.

He is currently a tenure-track researcher in History of Medicine at Link Campus University in Pescara.
