Lucia La Sala is an associate professor of General Pathology (MEDS-02/A) at the Department of Life Sciences, Health, and Health Professions, Link Campus University.
A biologist with a PhD and a specialist degree in clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine, she gained international scientific experience at IDIBAPS in Barcelona and has been involved in academic, clinical, and research activities at the University of Milan and IRCCS MultiMedica.
Her translational research examines the molecular mechanisms linking diabetes, obesity, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk, with a particular focus on metabolic memory, endothelial dysfunction, microRNAs, exosomes, and early biomarkers.
She has served as Principal Investigator on projects funded by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) and has helped coordinate the Ministry of Health’s ongoing research programs on diabetes, cardiovascular complications, and the microbiome.
Her most recent research includes transthyretin-related cardiac amyloidosis and rare intestinal diseases.
She is an associate editor for Frontiers in Immunology and an external expert for COST European Cooperation in Science and Technology.
She is a member of the Technical and Scientific Committee (CTS) of patient associations for rare intestinal diseases.
She authored 73 indexed publications, with a Scopus H-index of 32 and over 3.400 citations.
