Maria Sofia Molonia is a tenure-track researcher (RTT) in the BIOS-11/A scientific discipline (Pharmacology) at the Department of Life Sciences, Health, and Health Professions at Link Campus University.
In 2015, she earned a single-cycle Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology with highest honors, and in 2018, she attained a Ph.D. in Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine at the University of Messina. In 2023, she specialized with honors in Pharmacology and Clinical Toxicology at Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro. That same year, she also attained the National Scientific Qualification to serve as an associate professor in Competition Sector 05/G1—Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy.
Her research focuses on pharmacology and experimental toxicology, with particular attention to the effects of toxic agents on human health and the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in cellular and metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Her research includes the study of the biological effects of environmental contaminants and the evaluation of the protective properties of drugs, bioactive molecules, and natural extracts in various in vitro experimental models.
During her scientific career, she was a researcher at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine of the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) in Spain, where she investigated the role of bioactive compounds in the molecular mechanisms involved in metabolic alterations and adipocyte dysfunction.
She authored several scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and has participated in numerous research projects. She has also served as a speaker at national and international conferences, where she has presented the results of her research and received recognition and awards for her scientific work, including the 2024 Farmindustria Award, conferred by the Italian Society of Pharmacology (SIF).
