Dr. Matteo Serano is currently a tenure track researcher at Link Campus University. His education has developed across different but deeply complementary disciplines. After attaining a master's degree in Sports Science at G. d'Annunzio University, he expanded his studies with a degree in Biotechnology from the University of L'Aquila, deepening his interest in biological processes.
His academic training culminated in a PhD in Translational Medicine at G. d'Annunzio University. Dr. Serano has conducted research at the laboratories of the Center for Advanced Studies and Technology (G. d'Annunzio University) and at the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Siena, where he also taught histology, embryology, and stem cells.
His research activity is based on the morphological and functional study of the structures involved in the excitation-contraction coupling mechanism in skeletal muscle. In particular, he focuses on the characterization of mouse models carrying mutations in sarcoplasmic reticulum proteins, such as RYR1, Calsequestrin, and STIM1, laying the foundations for understanding the mechanisms involved in the development and progression of rare genetic diseases such as Central Core Disease, Tubular Aggregate Myopathy, and susceptibility to Malignant Hyperthermia.
During his research career, Dr. Serano has participated in nationally significant research projects funded by the Ministry of University and Research (PRIN and PNRR), as well as international projects funded by Telethon, the French Muscular Dystrophy Association (AFM-Telethon), and the US National Institute of Health (NIH).
Dr. Serano is the author of over 15 scientific publications and has been a speaker at numerous international conferences, where he has presented the results of his research.
