Researcher
Link Campus University - Rome
Michele Cerasuolo is a Fixed-Term Tenure-Track Researcher (RTT) in the scientific-disciplinary field BIOS-12/A – Human Anatomy at Link Campus University.
A surgeon specializing in geriatrics and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” in Naples. His training in anatomy began at the Laboratory of Neural Network Morphology in the Department of Human Anatomy at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli.” He subsequently furthered his studies in sectional anatomy and anatomical dissection at D’Youville College in Buffalo, United States, and took advanced courses in musculoskeletal anatomy at Harvard University and in microscopic anatomy of solid organs and the nervous system at the University of Florence.
He has conducted research at the Siena Brain Investigation and Neuromodulation Laboratory (Si-BIN Lab) at the University of Siena, focusing on noninvasive neuromodulation techniques and the anatomical and functional organization of brain circuits. He also serves as a Research Fellow at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he focuses on non-invasive brain stimulation, multimodal neurophysiology, and functional neuroanatomy, with a particular emphasis on the relationships between cortical organization, brain connectivity, and neurophysiological responses.
Her methodological training includes the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) program at Harvard Medical School in Boston; specialized courses in clinical epidemiology and the diagnostic and therapeutic management of dementia at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome; as well as training in statistics and epidemiology organized by the Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics in Florence.
His primary research interests focus on structural and functional neuroanatomy, neuroplasticity, neurodegenerative diseases, and brain aging, through the integration of morphological methods, advanced neuroimaging, neurophysiology, and noninvasive neuromodulation. He also studies the relationships between metabolic alterations, neuroinflammation, and structural and functional changes in the nervous system. He collaborates with researchers and academic institutions in the United States, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain, and Oman on interdisciplinary projects in human anatomy, experimental neuroscience, and clinical research.
He authored and co-authored several publications in international scientific journals and has presented the results of his research at national and international conferences. Among the awards he has received is the Best Biotechnological and Surgical Research Award – Under 35, conferred by the Italian Society of Biotechnological Surgery.
He has gained extensive experience in teaching Human Anatomy at the university level, serving as an instructor, tutor, and educational support staff for the Master’s Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” in Naples and Caserta.
He is a member of the Early-Career Editorial Board for the international journals Advanced Neurology and Revista de Neurología, contributing to editorial and peer-review activities in the field of neuroscience.
