Olivia Realdon is Associate Professor of General Psychology (Scientific Disciplinary Group 11/PSIC-01: General Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Cognitive Neuroscience; Psychometrics; Scientific-Disciplinary Sector PSIC-01/A – General Psychology) in the Department of Human Sciences at Link Campus University in Rome. Her research interests lie at the intersection of emotions as multifactorial experiences, culture as situated cognition, and their impact on subjective and psychological well-being.
In recent years, expertise in these fields has focused on research into innovation in digital health, particularly in the context of rehabilitative care. By viewing technologies as cultural artifacts that generate experiential contexts, the research has focused on integrating well-being outcomes with clinical outcomes in the development of innovative, multi-component models for telerehabilitation. The focus on the well-being needs of people with chronic conditions in rehabilitation care has also been applied both as a guiding principle for the design and development of technological solutions for this purpose, and with regard to the methods and measurement tools for identifying these needs. Emotions, understood as processes of active adaptation to the environment, and the construction of meaning based on experience—which lies at the heart of motivation—have been operationalized as components in the design and development of Digital Therapies using video games (specifically, applied games) for rehabilitation through music and rhythm for people with chronic and neurodegenerative conditions.
Since the early 2000s, she has consistently taught (General Psychology, Communication Psychology, Cultural Psychology) at various universities, including the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and the University of Milan-Bicocca.
Her habit of working in both teaching and research—within the virtuous cycle of theory and application, combined with her extensive project work, has solidified her research expertise within multidisciplinary teams (research organizations, industry, and clinical centers), as well as in the training of young professionals, including in their career development. Leadership and responsibility for working groups in projects funded through competitive grants, and authorship of over thirty publications in peer-reviewed international journals (Scopus ID 13608696200; Orcid 0000-0002-7879-4723) complete her profile.
