Serena Recalchi is a tenure track researcher (RTT, SSD MED/05) at Link Campus University, and currently conducts her research at the Department of Experimental Medicine at Sapienza University, Rome.

Throughout her career, she has gained solid experience in the study of extracellular vesicles, post-translational modifications of proteins, and cellular activation processes involved in antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. Her work integrates basic research and diagnostic applications, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers useful for improving early diagnosis and patient stratification, especially in those forms of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome that are negative according to current diagnostic criteria.

Previously, she was an RTD-A researcher (MED/04) and research fellow at the Department of Experimental Medicine at Sapienza University, Rome, where she carried out laboratory work and taught on the degree course in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques. She obtained her PhD in Experimental Medicine with honors, a specialization in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry, and a Level II Master in Personalized Nutrition.

She co-authored several publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals and co-inventor of a European patent for the diagnosis of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Her experimental work draws on advanced expertise in key cell biology and immunochemistry techniques, including flow cytometry, ELISA, immunofluorescence, and protein analysis.

In addition to her research activities, she is involved in training students and young researchers and in scientific dissemination, promoting a translational research approach aimed at transferring laboratory discoveries into concrete clinical applications for the improvement of the diagnosis and management of autoimmune diseases.
