Andrea Ballini is Associate Professor in Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology (BIOS-09/A ), at the Department of Life Sciences, Health, and Health Professions, “Link Campus University”, Rome.
He is a Dentist, and obtained his PhD in “Biochemical and Biotechnological Sciences”, learning pathway “Biology, Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology”, at the Department of Precision Medicine of the University of Campania “L. Vanvitelli”.
He has served as a Researcher with full-time contract (art. 24 L. 240/10), for the Scientific Sector MEDS-16/A - Odontostomatological Diseases (ex-MED/28), at the University of Foggia, with teaching activities within the Degree Course in “Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics”, the Degree Course in “Dental Hygiene”, the Schools of Specialisation in “Oral Surgery” and “Paediatric Dentistry”, the scientific coordination of the 2nd Level University Master's Degree (60 CFU) in “Aesthetic Medicine in Dentistry”. Furthermore, he is a member of the College of Lecturers in Odontostomatological Disciplines (C.D.U.O.).
He was a Research Fellow at the Department of Excellence “Mechanics, Mathematics and Management” of the Politecnico di Bari.
He participated as a member/co-investigator/co-P.I. in the scientific activities of several Research Groups characterised by national or international collaborations (e.g.: Research Projects of National Interest-PRIN, 7th European Framework Programme, P.N.R.R., P.O.R., R.A. etc.).
He is co-inventor on a patent/patent granted in Italy and the USA entitled: “Method and diagnostic kit for multiple detection of viruses of the Coronaviridae family: SARS-CoV2, SARS-CoV, HCoV and MERS-CoV”.
He attained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor, for the Scientific Sector 05/E3 – Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; the Scientific Sector 06/F1 Odontostomatological Diseases (MEDS-16/A); the Scientific Sector 06/N1 – Sciences of Health Professions and Applied Medical Technology (06/MEDS-26).
He is the author of numerous international articles and 7 book chapters, and has received awards and recognition for his research activity.
Scientific production consists of more than 240 scientific publications listed on the “Scopus” and “PubMed” databases; number of citations 7272, h-index: 55 (source: Scopus, updated April 2025).
He is included in the lists - Top Italian Scientist (Macroarea Biomedical Sciences), and World Top 2% Most Influential Scientists List, as of 2020.
He is included in the Register of Expert Peer Reviewers for Italian Scientific Evaluation - REPRISE’ (register of scientific experts established at the Ministry of University and Research -M.U.R.) for the sections: “Basic Research”, and “Competitive Industrial Research and for Social Development”.
