Prof. Francesco Rossi graduated with honors at the University of Naples in 1972; then specialized with honors in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation in 1975 and Cardiology and Angiology in 1979. His academic career began in the 1970s as a full assistant professor at the Chair of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Naples. In 1982 he became Associate Professor and later, in 1990, Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli. In the academic field, he has held the positions of Director of the School of Specialization.

In Pharmacology (1991-2005), Coordinator of several Ph.D. courses, President of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine at SUN, President of the Faculty of Medicine and then, from 2006 to 2014, Rector of the University of Naples “Luigi Vanvitelli”. Furthermore he held positions of responsibility within the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities (CRUI), serving first as a Member of the CRUI Council and then as Vice President (2011-2014).

During his long career, Prof. Rossi collaborated and coordinated various research groups of an international nature (USA, UK and EU). His commitment to pharmacological research led him to be elected President of the College of University Pharmacologists (1995 to 1997) and President of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2012-2017). In addition, he was Director of the Institute of Pharmacology, Director of various Complex Operational Units (Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology, Clinical Pharmacology), Head of the Regional Center for Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology of Regional Relevance-Regione Campania-AIFA (2003-2017) and also a Member of the Superior Council of Health and Vice President of Section V ( 2013-2014). Since 2005, he has been a Member of the Technical Scientific Committee of the Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) and Vice President from 2009 to 2012. 

Throughout his career, Prof. Rossi has been interested in pharmacological research in the cardiovascular field as well as aspects of the use of drugs in various settings and the risks associated with their use, receiving various national and international awards for research and higher education activities. Furthermore, he was responsible for various research projects of the European Union, the MUR, the Campania Region, the Ministry of Health and private entities, as well as Head of the Center of Excellence on Cardiovascular Diseases co-funded by the MUR. A member of the Committee of Guarantors for Research Projects of National Interest (PRIN) of the MUR (2003-2005) and the Campania Region (2003-2010), he is now coordinator of the Bioscience District projects. 

Prof. Rossi authored more than 600 publications in international journals and is in the Top Italian Scientists. In addition, since July 2019, Prof. Francesco Rossi received a decree of appointment as Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” by Minister Marco Bussetti. From 2018 to 2021, he served as President of the National Conferment for the Granting of National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for the positions of university professor of first and second rank in the competitive field 05/G1 - PHARMACOLOGY, CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY AND PHARMACOGNOSIS. Currently, he is a member of national and international Research Centers and Scientific Societies,various Research Evaluation Committees. Since 2019 he is Coordinator of the Scientific Directorate “Clinical Innovation Office” at Campus Biomedico University (Rome) and since 2021 he is a member of the National Coordination Center of Territorial Ethics Committees for Clinical Trials on Medicines for Human Use and Medical Devices established at AIFA.

His academic interests are mainly related to clinical research, he was Member and President of various Ethics Committees and since 2023 he is a Member of the Health Commission of the Technical Area Health Research of the Ministry of Health, Member of the Campania Region Committee for the coordination of Campania Ethics Committees and Member of the Regional Observatory on Clinical Trials of the Campania Region. Finally, he is currently Director of the Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions at Link Campus University - Rome.
